Champions League Fixtures This Evening: Chelsea v Barcelona & More
Greetings to another evening of exciting Champions League football. Nine games are planned for tonight, including three British teams in play. Chelsea meet Barcelona in the key fixture of the evening, whilst Newcastle visit the French side and City host Bayer Leverkusen.
League Table
It's the midway stage of the group phase, so the rankings is taking form. All six British teams are presently in the upper twelve, however there are only two pts separating fifth and sixteenth place, so there's a whiff of volatility about the whole thing. All remains open.

Past Meetings
The sole past encounter between Newcastle and Marseille was the Europa League semi-final of 2003-04, won by an emerging superstar from Ivory Coast. Manchester City and Bayer Leverkusen have not faced each other previously. Chelsea and Barcelona have some past encounters.
Early Match Updates
Only a single goal in the first half of the early fixtures. Samuel Dahl's sixth-minute sizzler has given Benfica under Mourinho a one-nil advantage away to the Dutch side.
Marseille v Newcastle Preview
Even though Newcastle traveled to the south of France coming off their restorative 2-1 home Premier League victory against City on the weekend, and having beaten Union Saint-Gilloise, Benfica and Athletic Bilbao in the European Cup, their only on the road victory since the start of April came in the Belgian capital at Union Saint-Gilloise.
It's not that Howe was eager to discuss the mental side of this away form issue. “The European Cup is distinct from domestic games,” said the manager, whose team are sixth in the Champions League standings, with 9 pts from a possible 12 and automatic progression to the last 16 almost within touching distance. “I am not sure if you can compare them.”
A dedicated live feed is available for Chelsea v Barcelona. Scott Murray, the minute-by-minute equivalent of Diego Maradona is handling for that.
